Lastly, Amy’s business is already doing so much right that backend sales automations could be particularly powerful. Because she’s so far beyond struggling with fundamentals, optimizing her upsell and retention processes can easily deliver significant returns with barely any additional effort.

KPIs We Consider When Calculating Potential Post-Sale Profit:

To calculate the potential gains for Amy’s business, we use several key metrics:

  • Customer Acquisition Cost (CAC): I used Chat GPT to find this number, and it suggested that Amy's probably got her Facebook ads pretty well dialed in, so I assumed a relatively low CAC of $175.

  • Price Point of her Signature Offer: While the price of her flagship course, Digital Course Academy, is not publicly available at the time of publication, when I purchased the course in 2019, I paid $1,997. 

  • Upsell Price Point: When I purchased DCA, I also purchased the upsell, which, at the time, was a webinar slide deck template for $297. I'm sure she's probably experimented with other things since then. But for the sake of this example, I’m going to assume she’s still using an upsell priced around $297, which is just under 15% of the price of her main offer. 

  • Upsell Conversion Rate: I assumed a fairly low conversion rate of 15% for the first iteration of this example.

  • Referral Rate & Referral Incentive: Amy has a strong affiliate program, with 50% commission for referrals. That said, even if you don’t have an affiliate program, you can use backend sales automations to incentivize organic referrals, which also results in easy sales, quality leads and lowers your CAC. 

  • Continuity Offer Price Point & Retention Rate: Amy’s Momentum Membership, priced at $97/month, gives Digital Course Academy graduates a place to stay engaged after the course ends. Here, I assumed that 35% of people who go through DCA stick around to join the Momentum Membership. Again, these are my best guesses – not numbers I know – nor have I been informed by Team Porterfield of these numbers.

So, these are the baseline numbers we’ll plug into the ROI calculator to determine her potential gains.
