How to Figure Out What Makes You Unique—even (or especially) if you really have no idea
Happy New Year!
Yes, I am 100% the person who will say that to you well into February if we haven’t yet crossed paths in 2024.
My “new year” rituals extend as far as they need to for me to feel like I can close the book on the previous year with no loose ends left untied.
And when it comes to rituals for the year to come?
I love to spend a bit of time in January reconnecting with what makes me & my work unique so that I can come up with some creative new angles for my content in the year ahead.
This year that looked like carrying out a Competitors' Content Audit and Blue Ocean Assessment for my own business.
What am I talking about?
Well, a Competitor’s Content Audit involves checking out the content being created in your niche so that you know what other people are saying/doing/offering and you can understand what other messages, arguments and offers your prospective clients might be seeing when they engage with your content and offers.
The Blue Ocean Assessment is a step based on this book, and involves taking a closer look at what your competitors are doing so that you can position yourself as distinct from your competition.
Once I’ve gone through both of these steps, I can easily come up with content ideas that highlight my unique approach and my unique POV flows easily onto the page Trello board!
In case you're interested in carrying out this kind of audit for yourself, I filmed you a quick Loom to walk you 👇

I’d love to know what you thought of this process and/or if you found it easier to come up with content and offer ideas once you’d gotten clear on your Blue Ocean Strategy.

P.S.
Yes, a big part of your brand voice is based on your unique POV and how it differs from everything else out there on the internet…
But it’s also absolutely essential that your messaging ALSO be based on the words your audience members and best buyers are using to talk about their problems, needs, desires and dreams.
So where can you find those words?
That’s exactly what I teach inside Find Your Money Making Messages, a masterclass in Voice of Customer research for online business owners who want more confidence in their messaging (and more money in the bank).
Figuring out which words will help your audience convert really doesn’t have to feel so hard!
Check out this action-oriented masterclass that will show you where the messages you should highlight are already hiding in your existing client feedback:
